What Do You Need to Let Go Of?

Bean & Bread - Abergavenny

Have you ever felt stuck, like you’re living the same day over and over? You want to grow, but something keeps holding you back a job, a relationship, or even a habit that no longer serves you.

As we approach 2025, it’s the perfect time to ask yourself: What do I need to let go of to move forward?

For me, letting go meant leaving my job a decision I finally acted on Thursday. It wasn’t easy. I spent months debating whether it was the right move. But deep down, I knew it was time since it a goal of mine to leave this year.

The Heart of the Matter

One of the hardest questions we can ask ourselves is: Am I happy where I am, or am I just comfortable?

At the start of the year, I felt disconnected from my work. At first, I thought I was burnt out. But after an honest conversation with a friend, I realised I was actually bored.

Here’s the difference:

  • Burnout: Burnout feels like emotional and physical exhaustion. You might still enjoy your work, but the constant pressure and lack of rest leave you drained. Burnout often requires a break to recharge.

  • Boredom: Boredom feels like stagnation. It’s a lack of joy and engagement. You may be going through the motions, but the spark is gone. Unlike burnout, boredom often signals that it’s time for a deeper change.

Recognising which one you’re feeling is the first step toward creating a life that aligns with your goals.

Your Toolkit for Change

If you’re ready to break free from stagnation, here are four steps to guide you:

  1. Reflect on Your Life:
Identify areas friendships, relationships, work, or habits that no longer bring you fulfilment.

  2. Understand the Root Cause:
Are you burnt out or bored? If you’re burnt out, consider how you can rest or create better balance. If you’re bored, ask yourself if you’ve outgrown this area of your life.

  3. Plan Your Exit Strategy:
Don’t leap without a plan. Break your goal into small, actionable steps. For example, if you’re seeking a new job, focus on improving your resume, networking, or learning new skills.

  4. Embrace Delayed Gratification:
You may not be able to make a major change overnight, but small steps build momentum. Trust that the right time will come, and focus on making steady progress.

Making It Personal

What’s one area of your life where you feel stuck? Is it a job, a relationship, or a routine? Take a moment to reflect:

  • What am I holding onto that no longer serves me?

  • Am I experiencing burnout or boredom? How do I know?

  • What’s one small step I could take today to start letting go?

Your journey is yours alone, but every step you take toward clarity and change makes the next step easier.

Why This Matters to You

Change is hard because it requires stepping into the unknown. But staying in your comfort zone often keeps you from reaching your true potential.

When you let go of what no longer serves you, you make space for new opportunities, growth, and joy.

The process might feel uncomfortable at first, but it’s in these moments of discomfort that we discover what we’re truly capable of.

Your Next Steps

  1. Take 10 Minutes Today: Reflect on one area in your life that feels stagnant.

  2. Identify One Thing to Let Go Of: Be honest with yourself about what’s holding you back.

  3. Plan One Actionable Step: Whether it’s updating your resume, setting boundaries, or starting a new habit, take a small step today.

Remember: Big changes don’t happen overnight, but every small action moves you closer to the life you want.

Wrapping Up

Letting go isn’t about loss it’s about making room for the things that truly matter.

Whether it’s a job, a habit, or a relationship, let go of what’s holding you back and take that first step toward a happier, more fulfilling future.

Until next Sunday,
Justin
