Have you ever been so excited about a big goal that you dove in headfirst, only to feel completely overwhelmed a few weeks later?
Your not alone. I had this huge vision for what I wanted to achieve and I went all in, thinking that was the key to success. But a month later I was completely burnt out, frustrated, and feeling like I’d failed.
Lets take a step back and look at Amazon. It started off with Jeff Bezos in his garage selling books but he had a big dream and today, Amazon is a multi billion dollar company.
Everything started small, every big success started off as a series of small steps.
For the first Sunday of the month its a good time to reflect on your own goals for 2025. What’s the smallest step you could take today to start building momentum?
The Heart of the Matter
The problem with big resolutions is that they can feel so overwhelming and when we fall off track (which happens to everyone), it’s tempting to give up completely.
But starting small? That changes everything.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Small steps build confidence, you prove to yourself you can show up.
Small steps create momentum, those little wins add up.
Small steps feel manageable, even on the tough days.
The secret is simple: small, consistent actions are more powerful than any grand plan. A 1% improvement every day might not feel like much, but over time, it leads to massive growth
Your Toolkit for Change
Here’s how you can leverage start small, win big for 2025.
Shrink the Goal:
Instead of “work out every day for an hour,” try move for 5 minutes. Small steps make it easier to stick with your plan.
Focus on One Thing at a Time:
Don’t try to change everything at once because it’s a recipe for burnout. Pick one habit and commit to it.
Celebrate Micro-Wins:
Every small step counts. Whether it’s drinking water first thing in the morning or journaling for 5 minutes, celebrate the effort it keeps you motivated.
Stack Habits:
Add your new habit to something you already do. E.g while brushing your teeth, think of one thing you’re grateful for.
Making It Personal
When I think about my own journey, the biggest changes I’ve made didn’t come from “go big or go home” moments. They came from starting small.
Take my morning routine e.g. I used to try to do it all wake up early meditate, journal, work out, and crush the day. You can probably guess how that went.
When I shifted my focus to just one morning affirmations it felt manageable. Once that stuck, I slowly added other habits over time.
This year I’m challenging myself and you to think small.
What’s one tiny step you can take today toward your biggest goal?
Why This Matters to You
It’s easy to look at the big picture and feel paralysed by everything you think you need to do. But progress doesn’t come from doing it all it comes from showing up consistently.
Starting small removes the pressure to be perfect and makes change feel possible.
As the saying goes there is no over night success but they happen one small step at a time.
Your Next Steps
Pick one goal you want to work on.
Shrink it down to the tiniest step you can think of.
e.g. Instead of “read more,” commit to reading one page a day.
Commit to doing it every day for one week.
Wrapping Up
Big change doesn’t come from big moves it starts with the smallest, simplest actions done consistently.
Focus on the small things and trust that every little step counts.
Until next Sunday,
Justin
